aerial picHawaii volcano eruption: Striking tures show Kilauea’s smoking lava flow
THE HAWAII volcano eruption has been captured in remarkable aerial pictures showing a sinister channel of molten lava sizzling into the sea causing giant gas clouds.Lava fountains from Kilauea’s fissure 8 continues to flow through to Hawaii’s open channel where the coastline has been significantly re-created.
The spatter cone is now 180ft (55m) tall at its highest point, and fountains only occasionally rise above that point.
Lightweight volcanic glass fragments, called Pele’s Hair, from the lava fountain at Fissure 8 continue to fall downwind of the fissure, dusting the ground within a few hundred meters of the vent.
Residents have been warned to minimise exposure to these volcanic particles, which can cause skin and eye irritation similar to volcanic ash.
